Staying Put

I don't think it has stopped raining all day. Now its raining very hard and the wind is picking up too. We'll be rocked to sleep tonight.
Navigation is not advisable on the Wey or Thames at the moment so it looks as though we are staying put here in Weybridge for now. Another boat has joined us above Town lock waiting for the ok to move on. The only problem is our tank is running low on water, we may have floods outside and a drought inside.
So today we have been shopping and stocked up the fridge, done some baking,
re-fixed the cabin lace at the windows,
read the papers and watched a DVD, as well as keeping an eye on the river level marker just across the road.

  1. Ian and Karen - Basingstoke feedback is really helpful - thank you. There's a waterpoint about 500 meters upstream of where you are (at the top of the 'herringbone' moorings) it just requires a BW key. The Wey does fall quickly but in case you need any help / advice my contact details are here http://www.byfleetboatclub.com/committee.php - the National Trust will also help - the local lengthsman is Steve Valiant - contact via Thames Lock.

I will knock on the side if i am going past.

  2. Sunday today - the wind has been gusting all night, battering my garden and fences; the rain is lashing down on the flat roof of next door's outhouse. I think I'll be wearing a warm layer to church!

I hope you soon manage to restock your water. Meanwhile, I can smell those scones from here!

We have shared the scones today with friends.

  3. Hi Ian and Karen

How much has the river risen? Its lashing down at Brinklow marina today the waves on the marina are amazing! at least we are not wanting to go out and cruise, but this weather is terrible for everyone on the cut we do feel for you. Hope conditions improve soon, looks like you may get better weather where you are this afternoon. Doug and James

    1. The level is staying much the same, but the flow is very fast. Warnings are staying the same. We're safe here above the lock. We had a short burst of sunshine this afternoon, but it didn't last long.

  4. I think it's raining everywhere! Luckily I could stay inside and keep dry and warm today. I did some cooking too - not baking, but a meal to freeze and take to my daughter's next week. With a baby, I think it helps a bit if gran takes some food! Lovely to hear from you - do let me know if you're coming up this way to the Leeds-LIverpool again.

  5. I hope you can get to the water point Kathryn mentioned - a dry tank is always the biggest worry. We've gone on to rationing from yesterday so we should be good for another week - hopefully we'll all be on the move again before then!

    1. We're washing up and washing with the minimum. But joy of joys I had a bath at our friend's house today, first one in over a year! Lovely.

  6. Ian and Karen - I did drive by today but I suspect you were out enjoying the sunshine as it seems the boat was empty - wonder what happened to the boat behind that's no longer there. Noticed the BCF sticker in the window. Are you aware fellow BCFers James and Hazel Bell live close by? An E-Mail I received from the National Trust this morning suggested that the Red Boards may stay up all week - that's not good news for you I know but as the entire Thames now has Red Boards I don't suppose there's much point in leaving a safe haven. Hope all works out well for you.
