Brandon Town

P1090587

Just a small town, with a mix of shops and a couple of useful supermarkets.  The market square is a large open space overlooked by the town hall which looks as though it was once a school.

A lot of the buildings here are made of flint stone, and the town sign has flint knappers at work depicted.

And the pub on the square is called The Flintknappers.

From prehistoric times the area was mined for flint as can be seen at Grimes Graves, a popular Brandon tourist destination. Much more recently, the town was a major centre for the production of gunflints so flint has been a very important commodity here.
