Pilgrim’s Progress
Bedford was the home town of John Bunyan the author of the well known book ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’. The book was written whilst he was in prison for preaching. He was a non-conformist and it was unlawful to preach against the established church.
Pilgrim’s Progress tells the story of Christian making the journey through life, following his conversion and the temptations and difficulties of life until he reached the celestial city (heaven), his journey’s end.
There are many reminders of John Bunyan around the town.
The Bunyan Meeting is the church standing where once John Bunyan preached in a barn where the non-conformists met together. There is a museum telling his story here as part of the church.
The front doors are bronze, sculpted with pictures from the story of Pilgrim’s Progress.
Views of Bedford from the river,
It was very quiet at the moorings in Bedford, no other boats around and just canoeists practicing this morning. We moved back out of town to the GOBA moorings this afternoon, back on the meadow where we have enjoyed a sunny and warm evening.

It's years since I read Pilgrim's Progress. Maybe I should give it another read!
