on the 14.10 train service from Kiveton Park via Sheffield………
‘cos the Chesterfield Canal doesn’t reach Chesterfield any longer.
The water runs out at Norwood tunnel at Kiveton Park.
The tunnel is filled in, as was much of the old line of the canal, some of which the Chesterfield Canal Trust have been busy working to reinstate and much work has been done from Staveley to Chesterfield to make the waterway there navigable again.
This end of the canal is definitely the prettiest and worth the climb up the 26 locks from Shireoaks, through the very green countryside, even in the rain, well showers as we worked the locks the heavy rain came later.
fishy expectations
patience rewarded
Wednesday
Broadwood – Kiveton Park, 4 miles, 23 locks
