Goodbye Manchester

Our night-time view at Castlefield Basin.  This morning we enjoyed coffee and cake with Doug and James, before going into town for an anniversary lunch.  Today is our 31st Wedding Anniversary - goodness where have all those years gone.

Then we thought it time to take our leave of Man City after our 5 night stay, unusual for us to stop that long anywhere.
As we made our turn you can make out some of the red stone that the Romans first built their city of Mamucian on, where the rivers Irwell and Medlock meet.

A cheery wave from James as we made our way past Chance, ‘Happy Cruising’ for the rest of the season.

Out past the old warehouse building and under the bridge under the bridge under the bridge!

A final shot of the Beetham Tower, a 47 storey skyscraper, the tallest building in Manchester.  Up to level 22 is occupied by the Hilton Hotel with the higher floors being private apartments. The architect lives on the top level and has an olive grove up there too, we are told.

And so we left the city behind, through Stretford, Sale and out into the countryside once more.  It is lovely to moor with green fields and trees around us, and a bounty of blackberries along the towpath which made a very good tea-time feast, just add sugar and cream!

  1. Nice to see Manchester through your eyes. Made me think I should go on a photo expedition there again soon. As for blackberries, there seems to be a bountiful supply this year. They will be healthier from the canalside than the roadside!
