Tour de Canale

A few weeks ago, on the Oxford Canal we passed the little catamaran doing a tour of the canals collecting money on its way for Macmillan.
John lost his wife, Carol, to cancer last year and is honouring the support and care his family received from the Macmillan nurses who cared for her at the end of her life. You can read about his trip in Towpath Talk Here
Peterborough Macmillan - John (14)
Yesterday whilst moored in Peterborough, he arrived behind us and of course we got chatting to John. He has been out on his home-made boat since the 13th April, leaving Selby where he lives, going North, South, East and West on the inland waterways system. He’s on his way to the most easterly point, Brandon on the Little Ouse.

He has already been as far as he was allowed North to Tarleton on the Rufford Branch, West to Llangollen, South to Godalming.

John’s home for the last two months has meant he has borne the brunt of all weathers, lots of rain, wind and cold.  He has been enjoying the sunshine of the past few days.  His greatest difficulty has been finding ways to dry out, usually by wearing his wet clothes to the pub for a meal and a pint or two!

At night he pops up his pod where he says he is warm and dry.  We enjoyed sharing a meal with him last night and wish him well on the rest of his journey and his fundraising effort.
